What We Do
At Hero Paws, we’re working tirelessly to turn our vision into reality: A ‘mission by way of a fully equipped retirement and education retreat where forces and service dogs can decompress, recover, and transition from service life onto a well-earned retirement home.

These dogs have spent their lives protecting, searching, and serving alongside police officers and military personnel. Hero Paws exists to make sure they are never forgotten and never left without the care they deserve.

At Hero Paws, our work goes far beyond paying veterinary bills.
We intervene when service dogs face euthanasia, provide emergency rescue and rehoming, support dogs who haven’t completed their training, and help those facing complex medical or behavioural challenges.
From life-saving treatment and rehabilitation to compassionate palliative care, we stand beside these dogs and their families through some of their most difficult moments.
We also advocate for change, challenging outdated attitudes towards working dogs and promoting welfare-led alternatives when their service comes to an end.

Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, we’re able to provide vital medical treatment, specialist training, and lifelong support for dogs who have served alongside the military, police and emergency services. Your support helps us honour their service and give them the care, dignity and future they deserve.

When a service dog retires, the structured care and support provided during service can come to an end, but their needs do not. Across the UK, there is no consistent, comprehensive post-service welfare network to support these dogs and the families responsible for their care.
Hero Paws exists to bridge that gap, providing a nationwide safety net through veterinary assistance, rehabilitation, behavioural support, specialist equipment, welfare guidance, emergency intervention and rehoming when circumstances change.
Because their service may end, but our commitment to their welfare never does.Â
